World energy demand is expected to more than double by the year 2050 as a result of population growth and an increase in average per capita consumption. Meeting this demand equitably, while protecting the environment and avoiding conflict over diminishing resources will require a much greater focus on future energy sources, technology, policy, and consumption.
As part of Global Awareness Week, September 19, 2007 has been designated as “Energy Day”, with the goal of increasing awareness of energy issues among UM students.
